A rare coffee that is grown by the Wa Chagga tribe on the foothills of Mount Kilamanjaro. In this dark roast form it has a fulfilling body, brisk sweet flavour and powerful fruity aroma. We have been selling this coffee for 20 years and it is sorely missed when unavailable. It is similar to Kenya coffee, being bright and vibrant, with winey acidity, with a deep, rich, and strong taste. In a lighter roast it has a sweet berry-like, fruity flavor and sometimes notes of cedar. The aroma has a brown sugar sweetness. In this darker roast coffee it becomes more of a sweet molasses fragrance that is slightly floral with notes of apple fruit. It is estimated that about 400,000 farming families obtain revenue from coffee, and the crop comprises about 20 percent of Tanzania’s export earnings.
