| Most Brazilian coffee ends up in cheap blends in supermarkets around the world. It is grown for maximum yield with little if any concern for quality. It is with pleasure therefore that we bring you an exception to this rule. A small number of growers and exporters have decided to try and produce coffee worthy of the name ‘speciality’ and to this end hold the yearly ‘Cup of Excellence’ to encourage more farmers to raise their standards. With a new approach to growing and processing they have been able to unlock hitherto unknown qualities of flavour, body and aroma. This coffee yields a fruitiness and complexity matched by great body and aroma that hints at black cherries with a zesty aftertaste. As its name suggests it is left to dry naturally in the sun which adds to its intense character. It is grown on the old bourbon strain of bean, rarely found, especially in Brazil and although production amounts to less than 1000 bags, at last a country so synonymous with coffee has something worthy of a song! |
