A coffee of very rare and wild character, with a heavy body and exotic wine like flavour and aroma. Although coffee’s birthplace was Ethiopia, it was the Yemen that was first to cultivate it. This proud tradition has been disrupted by civil war and turmoil and has reduced quality production almost to a standstill. It is harvested by hand in the almost inaccessible mountain regions of Bany Matar, the cherries are dried on the bush and the husks removed in a mortar. When we are offered this unique coffee and it lives up to its old ‘mocha’ reputation we buy all the beans that are offered!
