Assam Garden Teas

This is the world's largest tea producing area but most of its very best teas are picked at only the height of the season in mid-June and amount to a tiny proportion of its very large crop. With most gardens turning to machine processed cut, tear and curl production, each year these hand made "orthodox" leaf teas are harder to find but well worth the search.

The best are rich and malty with a great depth of flavour and aroma of juicy currants or raisins. The larger, tippy leaf teas tend to be smoother with broken leaf teas giving a darker, more brisk infusion. A traditional tea that is ideal with milk. Try it with sugar and its almost a pudding!

Product Name Price- Weight
'Golden Water' Dikom Gold   Sample Packet Available £30.00
 100g

This very rare tea from Assam with a crop of only 60kgs is produced in the Dikom garden, one of only two capable of making this type of tea. The long, golden tips are hand twisted and processed with exceptional skill. It has an almost dark chocolate fragrance and yields a light, silky but intensely flavoured infusion. Although being quite pale in colour for an Assam it is still perfectly at home with or without milk. It is best appreciated in its pure form but would add a touch of elegance to any blend of stronger Assam, such as our Breakfast tea when a stronger cup is required.

Greenwood Supreme SFTGFOP   Sample Packet Available £11.00
 100g
This charming garden takes its name from the scenic beauty of the area. Our search for the best Assam each year has led us to a number of garden's in this fine group, which is monitored by the Ethical Tea Partnership. This fine tea is a First Flush picking, most of Assam's best teas are from the second flush, but this was painstakingly made made to produce abundant tips which guarantee a really smooth infusion with a sophisticated character. The malty quality is very apparent with a lingering fruit like quality. Greenwood premium teas represent the top segments among both the orthodox and CTC teas, and are known for their 'depth', both in colour as well as in flavour. Where this tea really distinguishes itself is in the fine, almost 'Muscatel' fragrance and aftertaste generally found only in Darjeeling teas and also in its very smooth, lightness of character.
