Chamong Tea Estate is located in the Rungbong Valley of Darjeeling at an altitude ranging from 1550 to 2360 m. It is a bio-dynamic organic garden producing teas of great note in first and second flush. This example is a fresh, lively infusion with smooth, fruit notes and aroma. Chamong grows more than 96% pure China leaf. If you want to experience something very special from this garden try a sample packet of Peach Mist. Chamong is one of a group of very high quality gardens in Darjeeling producing not only outstanding tea but pioneering these same standards into the working environment too. Social security and workers welfare has always been given high priority, together with all the statutory benefits such as free housing, ration, medical and maternity benefits to workers. The gardens have fully equipped hospitals and primary schools for workers' children and places of worship for each community. The Group's commitment to environmental issues is reflected in the number of the group's gardens that have been or are in the process of being converted to the Bio-Organic method of cultivation. This policy not only made it possible to offer buyers the best flavoured certified Bio-Organic teas, both from Darjeeling and Assam as per EU Regulations, but more importantly, provided a healthier working and living environment in the gardens and surrounding areas. Amongst other eco-friendly projects in their Darjeeling Estates, is the tapping of natural water resources and harnessing this to produce hydroelectric power. Additionally to save deforestation and to maintain an ecological balance, liquid petroleum gas (LPG) is being provided to the workers, thus making wood fires redundant. A new fully automatic blending and packaging unit has recently been commissioned in Kolkata for hygienically blending and packing teas in keeping with the EU regulations and HACCP standards. The Switzerland based Institut Fur Marktologie (IMO) is the inspection and certifying agency for the group. All the tea garden factories have been inspected by SGS, India, for implementation and certification of HACCP standards, (SQF 2000cm). Six Darjeeling estates and the Assam Organic Estates are already certified under this scheme, whilst the remaining gardens are under the process of certification. At "Chamong Tee" the pursuit of success begins with the fundamental foundation of research. They are proud to have a dedicated team of professionals, with long-standing experience in the trade, who are constantly sourcing new and innovative ideas and methods, both in the plantation and manufacturing, as well as the marketing fields, and quality control at all stages is of primary concern.
