This evergreen shrub found in South America is famed for its invigorating effect. It is drunk there usually from a hollowed out gourd and special silver straw. As with green tea it is a great source of antioxidants and helpful in times of fasting.

An acquired taste I think ... After having tried Roasted Mate I decided I prefer Green Mate. The latter being less astringent and slightly mellower/sweeter in taste. If you like the earthy loose Pu-Erh teas, then this Roasted Mate should be good alternative if you feel adventurous to try something else. It is also less expensive than even the lower priced Pu-Erhs and apparently similar properties - but you need to do your research on those facts.
