Details

The name "Hattiali" is derived from the Assamese words "Hatti Alli", meaning literally the elephant is coming down the road, so called on account of a neighbouring elephant camp. We buy this tea from one of a number of gardens in the area who grow the famous P126A clonal tea bush, renowned for producing golden tippy teas which have the right balance between briskness and mellowness. Most frequently we buy from Hattiali Estate. This batch has a delicate leaf appearance with beautiful golden tips and plenty of tiny, downy hairs. In the cup it is big, smooth, with fine notes of malt, red wine, rose and sweet currant. A real comforter took with full cream milk and sugar! Hattiali is an estate with a century-old tradition of excellence, it belongs to the Jokai group of gardens acquired from Rossell Industries Ltd in 2005. Its factory was the first in Assam to be awarded the prestigious ISO 9002 certification in 1996. With a clonal area of 164 hectares out of a total of 405 hectares under plantation, Hattiali produces around a million kg annually. It is famous for golden tippy high-quality Orthodox teas. Review by Nicholas Øverland Haagensen
All what you can expect from the best of Assam and then some! I smelled buttery caramelish notes and of all things my mothers bakin! As the other reviews have mentioned rich strong but goes down easy. I would call this The Rolls-Royce of Assam! I dont dare to think of what happens when the 20kg Imperial got is gone.... It\'s Assam but not as we know it! The first non characteristic aroma and flavour that I smelled and indeed tasted in the background is Marzipan. Very interesting indeed. And an enjoyable little brew. Not for everyday drinking for my taste (I prefer Darjeelings for that) but if you like Assam then you should try this. (Posted on 22/07/2009)

This is really a fantastic tea - all the characteristics of Assam, but in a way that just slips down - not unnoticed, but bringing a smile to your face every time. (Posted on 22/11/2008)
