In preparing our range of coffees we have selected only the cream of the crop from each country. They are chosen for their quality and unique characteristics, which are linked directly to their growing conditions and equally importantly the way they are farmed.
Special thanks should go to these farmers whose artistry in their field has enabled us to enjoy these true coffee delights. Like their wine producing counterparts, creating the equivalent of a 'Grand Cru' is a painstaking achievement of which they are justifiably proud, especially in a market where general standards of quality are declining due to unsustainable low prices.
We roast all our coffee in the shop in our small batch roaster, so we can give careful attention to each varieties' optimum roast. This enables us to bring out the unique characteristics that our coffees are prized for. It also means you get to try them truly fresh.
We offer the following flavour notes as a guide but the best way to find out what they are like is to try them! We feel the best way to appreciate most of our coffees is in a cafetiere or filter but we have also stated those coffees suitable for making espresso or cappuccino.
We sell as little as 100g, which can be ground to suit your requirements. For fresher coffee still, invest in a good grinder, this makes even more difference. As always for any further advice or to order please ring us on 01522 560008. Have fun!

    Mexican Aztec Liquidambar Berilo Coffee

    This world-class coffee is blended from beans grown on the many organic estates in the Soconusco region of the Chiapas Highlands around Motozinta in Mexico. Cupping notes include dark chocolate, spice, nutmeg, lychee, malt, maraschino cherry, lemon, nuts and molasses. The farms are found at an altitude between 1,100 and 1,600 metres above sea level where each small producer carefully processes the cherries into parchment with strict quality control by their Cooperative.     Nicaraguan Black Bull Reserva Coffee

    Hacienda Sajonia produces very high-quality coffee generally but in our search for coffee perfection, we like to go one step further. To this end, the estate produces a small amount of their absolute best beans called Sajonia Reserva Familia. We think it yields one of the best darkly roasted coffees in the world. Darkly roasted coffees tend to trade the nuances of aroma for the big, bold character and the bittersweet, syrupy cup demanded by those who love very intense coffee. The Reserva offers something more though, with tones of rich, milk chocolate, hazelnut, caramel, Brazil nut, orange zest and molasses. Hacienda Sajonia is located in the beautiful El Diablo nature reserve high up in the relatively cool, cloud forest-clad mountains between Matagalpa and Jinotega in northern Nicaragua, placing it right in the middle of Nicaragua’s premier coffee growing region.     When sourcing coffee from Peru we look for coffee that can deliver a complex array of flavours. Typically we would hope to find notes of cream, caramel, lemon zest, marzipan, dark chocolate, pineapple, lemon, lime, pomegranate, bergamot, nutmeg, blackcurrant, raspberry, cherry, cane sugar and cocoa. We buy from different producers in Peru depending on quality and availability. They are all from worker’s co-operatives and where organic, sustainable farming methods are used.     Colombian Inca Dark Huila Esperanza Coffee

    This fully washed coffee was grown on ‘La Esperanza’ farm owned and worked by Gerardo Carvajal in the Bruselas, Huila region of Colombia, 1,600 meters above sea level. In this darkly roasted form, its complex character is described as having: notes of stonefruit, plum, toffee apple, brown sugar, dark chocolate and hazelnut.     Kenya Lion King Kisii Coffee

    No collection of coffee would be complete without a prizewinning offering from Kenya. Recently, coffee from this co-operative won the Specialty Coffee Association’s Blind Cupping Competition, scoring 98 out of 100. Some notes on the flavours when medium roasted included: Vibrant grape acidity, sugar cane sweetness, tropical fruit, pineapple, blackcurrant, mandarin, orange, nectarine, apricot, stone fruit, brown sugar, rhubarb, pink grapefruit, rose florals, lime, milk chocolate, nectarine, black tea, honey and fresh cherry. Our Kenya coffee is grown by the smallholder farmers of the Bisembe co-operative in Kisii County, a mountainous region of western Kenya famed for evergreen farms. Learn More

    Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffees are famed for their beautiful fragrance. The coffee taster’s lexicon is used to it’s full in striving to describe some of the aromatics that are glimpsed in the coffee’s aroma, both roasted and brewed. One of perhaps the most unusual is that of black tea. Others include: tangerine, stone fruit, red currant, lime, raspberry lemonade, floral, lemon, sweet, lavender, jasmine, blueberry, blackberry, bergamot, apricot, almond, wildflowers. It might be a surprise to find that it still smells and tastes of coffee! The coffee grown in this lush, green, mountainous area at altitudes up to 8,000 feet is referred to as ‘garden coffee’ due to most of it being grown on small-holdings of less than 1 hectare producing something up to 5 sacks of coffee beans.
