Details

This tea has a complex character and an almost rose scented quality to the prominent spicy flavour. It is a tea to be relished. The second flush term refers to teas plucked during May to June in the gardens of Darjeeling. Each ‘invoice’ from the 90 or so gardens is unique and amounts to approximately just 90kgs. The best of these teas are picked with the bushes in full sap during a short 3-4 week period in late June and early July. The famous 'muscatel' character is truly in evidence then. ‘Muscatel’ is variously described as reminiscent of muscatel grapes, a fragrance like a rose garden in bloom or the sweet scent of peach skin and honey. Aromas almost bursting with the quality of the summer sun and refreshing warm summer rains. They are best enjoyed without milk though it can be tolerated and are especially delicious with a lump of sugar in the Indian style! The teas we source are from gardens where sound social and environmental policies are in place. They belong to many associations including IMO, USDA Organic, India Organic, Ethical Tea Partnership, Fairtrade, UTZ and the Rainforest Alliance. Puttabong garden consistently produces the highest qualities with distinctive character. The garden has been practising ecological conservation and maintaining bio-diversity for many years. Different types of annual grasses, leguminous crops, short height shrubs and tall trees are planted in fallow land, boundaries of the section and vacant patches. Besides this, for sustainable production the garden has a huge plant for vermicompost, making liquid fertilizers with local herbs. The mountain breeze kissed by the great Kanchenjunga makes the teas produced by this garden unique. In order to have a long-term sustainable cultivation practice with an objective of producing healthy and safe tea, the gardens have practised IPM for a long time. Overlooking the magnificent snow-capped peaks of Mount Kanchenjunga – the world’s third highest mountain range, the Puttabong Tea Estate is located at an altitude of 1500 to 6500 feet and is spread across 22km ending in the snow-fed Rangeet river. This garden is one of the biggest tea estates in Darjeeling comprising of 5 divisions located at a stretch of approximately 20 Km from Darjeeling city to Sikkim State border. The pure mountain air, unique soil and altitude at the Puttabong tea estate along with the utmost care and quality standards implemented by Jayshree Tea management produces the finest of Darjeeling teas appreciated by discerning buyers around the world. 1122
