Chinese Tea

Chinese Tea | Imperial Teas

We are becoming increasingly well known for our unrivalled range of famous China teas and have responded to your interest by importing special qualities seldom seen outside of China. These teas are picked on just a few days of the year and yield very small crops. In the past they were given as tributes to the Emperor. Given such a wide choice we understand how difficult it is to pick a tea you might like but if you know which type, dark or Pu Erh, black, green, Oolong, yellow or white you enjoy, we can safely say that all our range will appeal for their quality alone. So in making your decision why not be led by an intriguing name, our descriptions or ultimately by your pocket! As we can only obtain small quantities of the very rare teas, between one and ten kilos, they are available in sample size packets, which also allows inexpensive experimenting.

  1. Jasmine Dragon Phoenix Pearls White Tea

Jasmine Dragon Phoenix Pearls White Tea

This is the finest grade of this popular hand-rolled tea. Each kilogram in weight is made up of 14,000 pearls. Just eight will make a half pint of tea and you can use the same leaves again for at least another brew. If you do the maths you'll find it works out at just six pence a cup for one of the finest and rarest teas in the world! The tea buds that make this tea are hand-picked in gardens found among the chains of mountains, hidden in mist close to the Fujian border with Jiangxi. Each leaf is skillfully hand rolled into a tiny pearl size ball. The tea is then wrapped in silk mesh and carefully dried. Learn More

  2. Yunnan Black Gold Black Tea

    Yunnan Black Gold Black Tea

This tea's appearance, long golden buds in a blend shot through with dark, wiry leaves is beautiful but it is in the cup that this tea really shines. It is made by a tea master with the focus being on maximising the complexity of flavour. As well as all the usual spicy, peppery, subtle earthy notes and a sweetness in the finish, this batch has a very clear note of caramel that we love, with a warm honey flavour too. As you can tell, one of our favourite teas of the year. Learn More

  3. Heart Shaped Hei Cha Dark Tea

Heart Shaped Hei Cha Dark Tea

Dark Tea or Hei Cha is a famous tea product of Anhua, in the Hunan Province of China. It shares the same processing of post-fermentation through microbial action as Pu Erh. It is similar in flavour to Pu Erh too. We have chosen to have this tea made into heart shapes to reflect the many alleged health benefits found in drinking this heavy but very mellow charactered tea. One heart should be brewed in 500ml of filtered, boiling water. It is infused for just 20 seconds with the leaves being re-used 5-6 times to extract all the goodness. Listed below are a number of the claims made for its health benefits. Learn More

  4. Long Jing Dragon Well Green Tea

Long Jing Dragon Well Green Tea

Long Jing, also known as 'Dragon Well' has a full, sweet and aromatic flavour with a cleansing quality that reflects the natural way it is grown. It takes between 70 to 80,000 leaf and bud sets to make just 1kg. From Shi (Lion’s) Feng Peak you can see a beautiful picture of fertile soil, flowing streams, dense trees, green bamboos dancing on the breeze and patches of tea gardens with clouds lingering around them. 5. Yin Zhen White Crystal

    Yin Zhen White Crystal

This rare and famous tea was first produced in 1796. It is extremely high in polyphenols, low in caffeine and has a light, subtle infusion. This is the finest of its kind and is made entirely of silvery buds covered in fine white hairs. It has been a challenge to find Yin Zhen this year, with adverse weather conditions adversely effecting the size of the already small crop. This tea has almost doubled in price in China and took much longer than usual to arrive, due to the floods in China. Our contacts in China however, always make sure we can offer some of the highest quality made and at a reasonable price. I have seen it selling elsewhere for £20 for 25g.

  6. Fuchow Golden Needle Black Tea

    Fuchow Golden Needle Black Tea

An unusual flat, smooth leaf in the style of Long Jing green tea, that is worked by hand in a wok. It grows on the 'big leaf' tea tree, in common with our Tea of Life, in the Fujian Province. A rich tasting, fruity liquor with a lingering aroma of chocolate and fresh raspberries. Learn More

  7. Fuchow Monkey King Black Tea

    Fuchow Monkey King Black Tea

This is the best grade of the black teas called Fuchow, hence the name 'Monkey King'. You can tell from its appearance with the abundant tips and golden hairs that it will be a rich, smooth tea with a complex character. It is predominantly malty in character with notes of cocoa and according to some of our customers a hint of ginger. Extremely exclusive and a current Imperial favourite. Learn More

  8. Metabolism Booster Wellbeing Blend

    Metabolism Booster Wellbeing Blend

A blend combining the three teas, which are currently being exposed to much ado in the press regarding their alleged benefits to weight loss. It is made up of a Chinese Oolong called Da Hong Pao Red Robe, Fog Island Sencha from Japan and Chinese Pu Erh. The tea flavour is dominated by the Red Robe Oolong, with it's distinctive toasty, almost mellow pipe tobacco note and ripe fruit aftertaste. The delicate notes of the Sencha, whilst somewhat subdued by the other teas, adds a fresh edge to the cup, with the more earthy tones of the Pu Erh adding weight and body.

A Taste of Honey Black Tea

A special blend of three of the world's best black teas that have a unique flavour profile that give the infusion a natural taste of wild honey. Malt, spice, fruit, honeysuckle, peach, nectarine and chocolate notes are among the many that compete for recognition as the tea reveals its character seemingly in waves upon the tongue. Learn More
