Chinese Tea

Chinese Tea | Imperial Teas

We are becoming increasingly well known for our unrivalled range of famous China teas and have responded to your interest by importing special qualities seldom seen outside of China. These teas are picked on just a few days of the year and yield very small crops. In the past they were given as tributes to the Emperor. Given such a wide choice we understand how difficult it is to pick a tea you might like but if you know which type, dark or Pu Erh, black, green, Oolong, yellow or white you enjoy, we can safely say that all our range will appeal for their quality alone. So in making your decision why not be led by an intriguing name, our descriptions or ultimately by your pocket! As we can only obtain small quantities of the very rare teas, between one and ten kilos, they are available in sample size packets, which also allows inexpensive experimenting.

  1. Pineapple Tea of Life White Tea

Pineapple Tea of Life White Tea

Pineapple adds a tropical, sweet, refreshing flavour to this special white tea, grown in the high mountains of Zhen He. This special white tea, grown in the high mountains of Zhen He, is our most popular variety. It first came to our attention over 20 years ago when research published in Germany claimed it to have an energising, revitalising effect. Our research in the field since then would seem to back this up! It is mellow and honey sweet in the cup with a lovely pale amber appearance. Learn More

  2. Mandarin Tea of Life White Tea

Mandarin Tea of Life White Tea

The addition of sweet, fragrant mandarin oil adds a complementary twist. Tea of Life's wild appearance and many colours are due to the simple, sun drying process it undergoes. It makes it a really difficult tea to flavour and pack! Packed full of antioxidants. Learn More

  3. Yunnan White Gold

    Yunnan White Gold

We had to request a special manufacture of Yunnan (Dianhong) Gold tea this year, so an already scarce tea has become almost non-existent. This is due to the fact that most of the juicy buds used to produce it are now being used to make the very popular Pu Erh tea. This tea is made up entirely of long, golden buds and is the highest grade available of Yunnan tea. Although satisfyingly strong it is impossible to make this tea full of golden buds bitter, the longer you brew it the richer and smoother it becomes. The most wonderful thing about this tea, made entirely from plump, hairy buds, is that no two cups taste the same. Instead, one is treated to an array of flavours that change almost with the weather! It varies from peppery spiciness to a sweet toffee character in a moment yet always has an exotic perfume. Perfect with or without milk. Black tea perfection! Learn More

  4. Cola Tea of Life White Tea

Cola Tea of Life White Tea

This special white tea, grown in the high mountains of Zhen He, is our most popular variety. It comes from the heart of the very small harvest. It first came to our attention over 20 years ago when research published in Germany claimed it to have an energising, revitalising effect. Our research in the field since then would seem to back this up! White tea is of course now widely renowned for its very high levels of antioxidants. The cola flavour is derived from a complex list of ingredients including neroli, lime, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, coriander to name a few. This blend is zesty yet perfumed. Containing very little tannin or caffeine it can be brewed for a very long time without losing its delightful flavour. Learn More

  5. Fortune's Adventurer's Black Tea

    Fortune's Adventurer's Black Tea

Robert Fortune was a tea pioneer. Let your taste buds follow his trail as he travelled on his daring mission to steal tea secrets from China! The infusion has hints of cocoa, rose, caramel, sweet tobacco, ‘Muscatel’, honey and frankincense, this tea will keep the most discerning palate intrigued for years. Learn More

  6. Father's Time Black Tea

    Father's Time Black Tea

This is a tea to savour, whether as a treat for yourself or a gift from a loved one. We use a beautiful, golden tipped tea from the birthplace of tea Mount Meng Ding. It has a rich flavour, like cocoa and rose, almost Turkish Delight! This is balanced by a tea grown in primaeval forests in another province of China, near the Lancang River, that is smooth, toffee-like, with hints of sweet tobacco and honey. The third part has a complex flavour and an astonishing, floral and fruity fragrance. Perfect gift for Father's Day! Or just to say I love you! Even if it's to yourself! Learn More

  7. A Taste of Honey Black Tea

A Taste of Honey Black Tea

A special blend of three of the world's best black teas that have a unique flavour profile that give the infusion a natural taste of wild honey. Malt, spice, fruit, honeysuckle, peach, nectarine and chocolate notes are among the many that compete for recognition as the tea reveals its character seemingly in waves upon the tongue. Learn More

  8. Keemun Naturally Decaffeinated Black Tea

    Keemun Naturally Decaffeinated Black Tea

Decaffeinated using the safe method of CO2, which also leaves more of the flavour quality in the leaf. Very acceptable on its own but my tip is to add just a few leaves of a very high-quality tea to the mix, this improves the flavour significantly whilst adding little to the caffeine levels. Made with a good quality Keemun large leaf it has a mild, sweetish flavour with hints of malt and fruit. It has the famed Keemun orchid aroma. Learn More

  9. Black Phoenix from Honey Orchid Tree Black Tea

Black Phoenix from Honey Orchid Tree Black Tea

Phoenix teas are normally produced as Oolongs but at our request this has been made into a black tea. And what an amazing tea it is, the like of which I have never tasted before. Dan Cong teas are famous for the characteristic of mimicking the flavours of different flowers and fruits, depending upon the strain from which they are made. This black tea has been made from Mi Lan, the Honey Orchid strain. It is hard to describe the complexity of fragrance and flavour in this tea but it is intense, with prominent notes of peach, mango and apricot released seemingly in waves upon the tongue with a rich malty finish.
