Chinese Tea

Chinese Tea | Imperial Teas

We are becoming increasingly well known for our unrivalled range of famous China teas and have responded to your interest by importing special qualities seldom seen outside of China. These teas are picked on just a few days of the year and yield very small crops. In the past they were given as tributes to the Emperor. Given such a wide choice we understand how difficult it is to pick a tea you might like but if you know which type, dark or Pu Erh, black, green, Oolong, yellow or white you enjoy, we can safely say that all our range will appeal for their quality alone. So in making your decision why not be led by an intriguing name, our descriptions or ultimately by your pocket! As we can only obtain small quantities of the very rare teas, between one and ten kilos, they are available in sample size packets, which also allows inexpensive experimenting.

  1. Lu Yu Golden Thread Black Tea

Lu Yu Golden Thread Black Tea

Lu Yu Golden Thread is a special grade of Chinese black tea produced in the high elevation tea gardens of western Hubei, China. Each year, this ‘golden hao ya’ tea is carefully selected from the farmers’ earliest batches of spring tea. It has a mellow and a smooth, refreshing character with notes of nut, longan fruit and caramel with low astringency. It is wonderfully full-flavored with a rich body and is a treat for black tea lovers. A Chinese poet described Enshi, where this tea is grown as "Endless green mountains to walk on, endless clear water going away". Learn More

  2. Moonlight White Pu Erh White Tea

Moonlight White Pu Erh White Tea

This white tea is a 'raw' tea and can be enjoyed in this young stage or left if you have the patience for many years to ferment into 'red' or 'dark' tea, as it is variably known. Personally, I think it is best enjoyed in its light, delicate white form. It has a mellow character and leaves a sweet taste in the mouth, with a hint of the famous 'earthy' flavour Pu Erh teas are known for. Grown high up in the virgin forests of Yunnan. Learn More

  6. Water Sprite Mi Lan Phoenix Dancong Oolong

Water Sprite Mi Lan Phoenix Dancong Oolong

The tea releases a remarkable fruit and floral fragrance and soft fruit flavour which lingers in the mouth for hours and in the cup for days! This is perfectly balanced by the trademark refreshing astringency, like the flesh and zest of a tangerine. This is from the highest graded group of Phoenix or Fenghuang oolongs known as 'Dancong' (meaning single tree). This one grows in the Xiangyun area on a mountain at an altitude of 300 metres. The bushes are cloned from an original tea tree and the Mi Lan strain is thought the closest in style to the famous old Song Zhong Phoenix teas.
