Chinese Tea

Chinese Tea | Imperial Teas

We are becoming increasingly well known for our unrivalled range of famous China teas and have responded to your interest by importing special qualities seldom seen outside of China. These teas are picked on just a few days of the year and yield very small crops. In the past they were given as tributes to the Emperor. Given such a wide choice we understand how difficult it is to pick a tea you might like but if you know which type, dark or Pu Erh, black, green, Oolong, yellow or white you enjoy, we can safely say that all our range will appeal for their quality alone. So in making your decision why not be led by an intriguing name, our descriptions or ultimately by your pocket! As we can only obtain small quantities of the very rare teas, between one and ten kilos, they are available in sample size packets, which also allows inexpensive experimenting.

  1. Anji Bai Cha King April Snow Green Tea

Anji Bai Cha King April Snow Green Tea

Grown in a remote mountain area near the Bamboo forest featured in the film 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon', this is currently the most sought after tea in China, where most of it is kept because it is considered to be unique. It is grown from cuttings of one of the only four surviving giant white tea trees. Whilst it is a 'White' tea it is processed as a green tea. This gives it a deeper flavour than Yin Zhen for example. The leaf looks slim and feather like with an almost white colour just prior to picking in the spring. This is expressed as the distinctive pale yellow-green in the dry leaf, not the more usual green seen in most green teas and in lower grades of Anji. It has a wonderful fragrance and pale lemon, crystal clear liquor. We buy the finest grade, which has more amino acids than other green teas and the best flavour we have experienced in any green or white tea. Learn More

  2. Jasmine Dragon Phoenix Pearls White Tea

Jasmine Dragon Phoenix Pearls White Tea

This is the finest grade of this popular hand-rolled tea. Each kilogram in weight is made up of 14,000 pearls. Just eight will make a half pint of tea and you can use the same leaves again for at least another brew. If you do the maths you'll find it works out at just six pence a cup for one of the finest and rarest teas in the world! The tea buds that make this tea are hand-picked in gardens found among the chains of mountains, hidden in mist close to the Fujian border with Jiangxi. Each leaf is skillfully hand rolled into a tiny pearl size ball. The tea is then wrapped in silk mesh and carefully dried. Learn More

  5. Yong Xi Jade Fire Hou Qing Green Tea

Yong Xi Jade Fire Hou Qing Green Tea

Huo Qing tea was first produced in Yong Xi village in the Anhui province, home to many famous teas. Its dark, glossy leaves with an edge of yellow rolled into little snail-shaped pellets unfurl slowly as they infuse. It is called Jade Fire as the tea has been fired over charcoal. The distinctively rich and smooth floral flavour presents a pleasant balance of astringency and sweetness with a long and refreshing aftertaste. As it has been fired by charcoal during the process, it has a unique light sweet smokiness in the aroma. The rolling process, similar to Gunpowder has been carried out the same way for centuries.
